Drawing, Painting, and Art Objects Workshops

Ideal for children, teens, and adults whose long-time interest in art is yearning for some serious explorations and guidance. Course content is structured according to the student's prior art experience--with the goal being to help the beginner get started and the veteran student advance to a new level.

Throughout the year's Drawing and Painting studies, students will learn about the following art topics and have opportunities to practice related basic techniques:

  • Shading & Shadows, Highlights, Simplifying Shapes, Turning 2-D Images into 3-D Solids, Perspective, Horizon, Foreground, Handling Levels of Detail, Composition Pointers, Preliminary Sketching, Site Sketching, Faces, Bodies, Motion, Emotion, Cartoons, Poster Display Tricks, Large and Tiny Objects, Precise vs. Exaggerated Techniques, Fantasies, Interpretations, Special Effects, Traditional vs. Other Art Trends, Black/White, Color, Mixed Media.

When working on Art Objects, students will learn:

  • to use various tools, to improvise and devise, to recycle man's and nature's materials, to apply drawing and painting techniques creatively, and to strive for high quality workmanship and results.

The finished object should be worthy of display. And, indeed, the Art Objects produced by delighted TPS students have been taken home with pride, each being a truly original, displayable piece of art. We plan and construct each step together.

Tools & Supplies:

Students to provide own drawing/painting supplies (explained in 1st class). Basic supplies for Art Objects workshops generally will be provided by the studio; special supplies will be purchased by students.
